Mallorca has long been a favourite holiday destinataion for German tourists. This had seen a decline over the last few years with the economic problems in Germany. This is now changing again and Mallorca is making a comeback in the hearts of these northern Europeans.
Mallorca is the favourite holiday destination for German tourists with over 3 million visiting the island every year.
The German interest in Mallorca goes beyond holiday travel though. According to an article in Expatica, Germans already own about 60 percent of the island’s holiday homes with about 100,000 living permanently on the island.
With a heavy population of Germans and British, Mallorcans are outnumbered on their own island. Mallorca is a favorite holiday destination for both the British and the Germans. While Mallorcans depend heavily on tourism, they also feel threatened by the German takeover.
The reality now is that both German and British residents live side by side with their Mallorquin neighbours. The island now enjoys an influx of tastes and fashions from both Germany and the UK in supermarkets and all styles of shops throughout Mallorca.
